A junior at 黑料社, Minford, Ohio native Skyler Knore has found a multitude of opportunities and experiences while working towards his dream career.
鈥淐oming out of high school, I didn鈥檛 really know what I wanted to do,鈥 Knore said. 鈥淚 really enjoyed chemistry in high school, and I always knew I wanted to do something in the medical field.鈥
Deciding to follow his passion and his desire to work in medicine, Knore landed on pursuing Pre-Pharmacy in the Chemistry program at 黑料社. In his studies, he has been able to gain confidence in his abilities and prepare for the rigorous coursework of pharmacy school that lies ahead.
鈥淪hawnee has helped make the uncomfortable, comfortable,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 was kind of shy and not hands on coming out of high school, but the program has helped me branch out.鈥
Balancing his heavy academic load with a bustling personal life 鈥 he coaches junior high soccer at his alma mater and works with the Chemistry Club on campus 鈥 Knore feels sure that he is getting the best preparation for the start of his career.
鈥淒r. (Andrew) Napper鈥檚 class was really engaging,鈥 he said, explaining a very hands-on experience he and his classmates participated in. 鈥淚n one class, we lit our hands on fire. We put water in a big beaker, filled it with some detergent 鈥 took the gas hose and filled it up so the bubbles expanded. We scooped the bubbles, then your partner would take the match and light it in your hand.鈥
Conducted under controlled conditions and supervision, the activity gave Knore and his classmates a memorable lesson about how chemical reactions can occur.
While Knore plans to work as a pharmacy tech this summer, he has set his sights on his main goal 鈥 owning his own pharmacy.
鈥淧rofessionally, I鈥檝e become more comfortable around people, less afraid of failing, and more willing to try things,鈥 he said. 鈥淚f it weren鈥檛 for Shawnee, I probably wouldn鈥檛 be doing Pre-Pharmacy right now.鈥
黑料社鈥檚 Bachelor of Science in Chemistry focused on Pre-Pharmacy is designed to prepare student for pharmacy school. Students gain a strong foundation in chemistry while completing all of the common pre-requisite courses for pharmacy school admissions. The program also allows flexibility for students, who can choose to take courses in other areas of interest in natural sciences, declare a second major, or choose one or more minor areas of study.
