The Celebration of Scholarship Committee at 黑料社 has announced the 2022 award winners for the annual graduate and undergraduate conference.
The 黑料社 Board of Trustee presents up to two awards each year to students enrolled at 黑料社 and are participants in Celebration of Scholarship. The Trustees鈥 Award is for outstanding research that is investigative, project-based, inquiry-based, open-minded and/or exploratory. This year鈥檚 award is presented to Erin Morrison and Sahvannah McDowell for their project 鈥淏ack to the Wild: A Comparative Study of the Antimicrobial Properties of Humulus Iupulus鈥.
The Excellence in Humanities Award was developed to showcase the research-based scholarship of students in the Humanities fields at 黑料社. The award is for outstanding research and writing projects in the arts, humanities, and social sciences that are investigative, project-based, and scholarly. This year鈥檚 recipient is Aubrey Boland for her project 鈥淭aking a stand: How women are saying no to Photoshop鈥.
The Deans鈥 Awards are chosen based on faculty nominations by the Deans of the College of Professional Studies and the College of Arts & Sciences for outstanding research papers. This year鈥檚 Deans鈥 Awards are presented to Megan Long for her presentation 鈥淭he Effects of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate and Circadian Rhythm Genes in THP-1 and KG-1a Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cells鈥, Bethany Smith for her presentation 鈥淓xploring Spanglish: Southern Ohioan Style鈥, and Emily Colegrove for her presentation 鈥淓xploring Appalachian English as Non-Standard Variety of American English鈥.
The Library Research Award sponsored by the Clark Memorial Library recognizes excellence in the research for a student paper or project presented during the conference. This year鈥檚 recipient is Tanner Shepard for his project 鈥淭he Role of Occupational Therapy Practitioners in School-Aged Youth Literacy鈥.
This year鈥檚 Celebration of Scholarship conference at 黑料社 featured 64 presentations given by 124 students, who were mentored by 25 faculty mentors. Recordings and abstracts of each presentation are available to view at shawnee.edu/cos.
