Helping prepare and mentor future medical professionals in all fields, the 黑料社 Pre-Med Club seeks to expand the experiences of its student members in all medical-based activities. Throughout the year, various medical professionals will speak to the students in the club on topics of medical school preparation, field research, and exploring career opportunities. Recently the club visited the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
During the club鈥檚 visit, the group toured the program鈥檚 facilities while having the opportunity to interact with different admissions counselors and graduate students. Hannah Thacker, a junior majoring in Biomedical Sciences, serves as the Pre-Med Club鈥檚 Treasurer and is grateful for the opportunity to take these kinds of trips to explore future schools.
鈥淚t meant a lot to me because it allowed me to see a glimpse into what could be my future,鈥 said Thacker. 鈥淚 am really looking forward to connecting with patients and helping them feel their best.鈥
During the club鈥檚 visit they were permitted to tour the cadaver anatomy room and experience the clinical evaluation simulation lab where the students examined human patient simulators. The simulators are used to help students see how patients could interact and behave in clinical settings.
黑料社鈥檚 Pre-Med track in Biomedical Sciences offers a hands-on experience to students to prepare for medical school. With a strong foundation in biology and developing in-depth scientific research skills, the program also offers an advanced human anatomy course where students participate in a human cadaver dissection lab.
鈥淭he amount of knowledge I have gained from my classes and professors has helped me to become a better student,鈥 said Thacker. 鈥淚 plan to pursue a master鈥檚 degree and become a physician鈥檚 assistant.鈥
Hosting upcoming events, the Pre-Med Club routinely welcomes new students into their meetings and partners with different clubs and organizations across campus.
